Well here we are ! The last day of 2016 and boy, what an epic year it has been.
We’ve had our high’s and low’s, or good times and our not so good time’s but most of all, we have had a year filled with new friends, happy guests and above all else, great results all around.
This got us to thinking about the New Year and all the opportunities that lie in front of us as we now enter our 4th year of being up and running. In fact, it’s quite hard to believe that 4 years to this very day, we signed our lease to open up our Retreat – the achievement of something we had dreamt about for a long time.
So sitting here writing this for you today is somewhat surreal and it has got us thinking about our plans for the future.
But most of all, we thought it would be a great opportunity to share with you a Shopping List of what we have learnt as a result of supporting all the people we have worked with since getting into this industry.
The best thing about this Shopping List is that it will cost you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING yet has the potential to make 2017 the happiest and healthiest year of your life.
We’ve kept it as simple as possible so don’t expect any fancy explanations or scientific research because, quite frankly, that’s how we believe healthy, happy living should be – simple, fun and easy to understand.
Here’s PART 1 of the Shopping List to get you started and make sure you tune in tomorrow for the rest of it!
A Balanced, Healthy Diet
Stop eating C.R.A.P. and by that we mean Carbonated Drinks, Refined Sugars, Artificial Additives and Processed Fast Foods. These types of foods only contribute to making you feel S.H.I.T – Sluggish, Hungry, Irritated and Tired, thereby affecting your mood and how you feel on a daily basis.
Introduce more C.L.E.A.N things into your diet – Colourful, Lean, Exciting, Alive and Natural. By doing so, you expose yourself to better quality nutrition that not only makes you feel better, it makes you feel more alive and in control.
A Personal Play List
One of the BEST forms of medication out there is music and it’s one that really puts a bounce into your step. Spend a few minutes creating some different playlists that you can simply turn on during a blue moment.
Songs that make you smile, ones that make you want to get up and dance, ones that you can sing out loud to when you’re on your own (or in public if you dare.) There are so many free platforms out there for you to enjoy and YouTube and Spotify are 2 that we regularly turn to.
Things To Be Thankful For
A Gratitude List is one of the simplest things to do each and every day yet so often, people take the “simplicity” of it for granted and don’t bother doing it.
Focusing on things you are truly thankful for at the start and end of each day reminds you of the good times, how you have worked through challenges in the past and more importantly, gives you something to focus on. After all, if you know what makes you happy and thankful, how much easier is it to do more of those things ?
Someone Who Inspires You
There are so many people out there doing amazing things yet have overcome great adversity. Find someone who gets the results you are looking for and follow them on Social Media. They don’t have to be anyone famous or super successful – we have many people who we meet each and every week who inspire us with their courage and determination and who we choose to learn from.
Learn from them and realise that you, too, have the potential to do whatever you put your mind to.
Surround yourself with good people. People who inspire and encourage you rather than put you down. Life is too short to tie rocks around your neck and let them drag you down and too often, we tolerate too many negative people in our life for fear of what might happen if we let them go yet we are slowly drowning ourselves.
Good friends are people who are there for you and at the same time, are people who YOU are there for too. Friendship is a two-way street that involves giving as well as taking, disagreements and differences of opinion but above all else, love, understanding and compassion for your individual unique qualities.
A Way To Express Yourself
Sometimes, emotions can be difficult to express and get across in words so finding your own personal way to express how you are feeling goes a long way towards health and happiness.
Drawing, painting, writing, dancing – whatever it is that floats your boat. Find something that you can do during those tough times when words defy you.
Because it’s the time when your body does the things that it can’t do while you are out and about doing everything else in your quest for health and happiness.
Make sure you have a comfortable, good quality bed with decent pillows you are comfortable with. De-clutter your bedroom and make it a place for sleeping and resting (as well as other potential “exercise” too) and make sure you have a proper bed time routine that involves totally switching off from the world. You’d be surprised at the effect good, quality rest has on your whole life.
A Positive Frame of Mind
It’s one thing that is essential in the world today because, as we have all seen in 2016, life is something that really is there to appreciate and you never, ever know what is going to happen from one day to the next.
Just because you have a positive outlook on life doesn’t mean that everything is going to be perfect and you’re not going to have problems and challenges BUT it does make overcoming these obstacles so much easier. Having a positive frame of mind means you give yourself permission to have days where things are challenging because you know they don’t last and you know you will get through them but more importantly, that you will learn something from them.
Until tomorrow, we hope you truly embrace and enjoy this last day of 2016.
